In addition to Tigers, campus has long been home to generations of the Sciuridae family — a group of squirrels that subsist on ground forage, including the occasional slice of Shakespeare’s Pizza and dropped Plaza 900 cookies.
As unofficial members of the Mizzou family, it's time we adopted them officially. In an unofficial sort of way.

Squirrel Adoption FAQs:
Q: Is this legally binding?
A: Squirrels aren’t able to enter into legally binding contracts, so probably not. It is, however, symbolically binding. (AKA just for fun.)
Q: Am I the only person adopting my squirrel?
A: While we will make every attempt to ensure each adoption involves a unique squirrel, the squirrels move really, really fast and are terrible about forming orderly lines. It’s possible a couple of them got counted twice.
Q: What should I name my squirrel?
A: Whatever you’d like, but in order to preserve their dignity we do reserve the right to reject any offensive submissions. Don’t be mean to your squirrel.
Q: Can I share my adoption papers online?
A: Yes! In fact, we encourage it. Just make sure to share how your fellow Tigers can adopt a squirrel of their own.
Q: Does the money go to the squirrel?
A: While their hoarding of nuts and seeds could be considered a primitive form of economics, squirrels generally do not have a use for money. Instead, your gift will be used to sustain Mizzou Botanic Garden, ensuring our campus landscape (and your adoptive squirrel’s home) is beautiful and healthy for years to come.
Q: How soon will I receive my (un)official adoption certificate?
A: Our squirrel logistics team works quickly, but never in straight lines. Certificate processing may take a few extra days as they complete their "uniquely efficient" workflow.
