Jean Camden, Senior Research Scientist, was deeply involved in biomedical research at MU for more than 40 years. During her career, she worked in multiple labs driving de novo research, teaching students, writing grants, and organizing laboratory affairs. Jean's research career is documented by a long list of peer-reviewed publications and funded grants. For Jean, advancing scientific knowledge and understanding was paramount. She was so deeply committed to scientific research at MU that, after retiring, she returned to the lab to continue her work. Jean was a role model for many researchers, students and faculty alike, who were fortunate to have worked with her. Jean was a deeply humble person for whom advancing scientific knowledge was more important than personal acclaim.
Jean passed away April 7, 2025. Friends and colleagues are raising funds to dedicate a memorial tree on the lawn of the Bond Life Sciences Center. This tribute will commemorate Jean's many years of service and commitment to science research at MU in a way consistent with her selfless demeanor. Generations of students and researchers will walk by her plaque every day and be motivated by her example of service and commitment to science. In this way, her service to MU scientific research will continue, even in her absence.

We hope to raise $5,000 to dedicate a large tree near Bond Life Sciences. If we do not reach this goal, funds will be used to dedicate a smaller tree. Any additional funds over the goal will be used for care and maintenance of this tree as well as support the Mizzou Botanic Garden Tribute Tree program.
