The Ben Arnet Memorial Scholarship in Television Sports Journalism honors the life and legacy of Ben Arnet, BJ ’03, a passionate sports journalist, storyteller and mentor whose career was deeply rooted in the Missouri School of Journalism.
Established by Ben’s parents, Bill, JD ’73, and Judy Arnet, BSHES ’91, the scholarship supports J-School students pursuing careers in television sports broadcast and production. Through this fund, students will gain opportunities to develop the skills needed to report, produce and share compelling sports stories across broadcast and digital platforms.

About Ben Arnet
Born and raised in Columbia, Missouri, Ben discovered his passion for sports broadcasting early and pursued it at Mizzou’s J-School, gaining hands-on experience at KOMU, the university-owned NBC affiliate.
After graduating in 2003, Ben built a career in television sports journalism with stops in Tucson, Arizona; Wichita, Kansas; and Buffalo, New York. In 2011, he returned to Columbia to help launch the Mizzou Network, where he spent nearly a decade producing coverage of Mizzou athletics and telling the stories of student-athletes across the university. He also called hundreds of games as a play-by-play announcer for SEC+, the SEC Network and ESPN.
In 2020, Ben’s career came full circle when he was named Sports Director at KOMU. Beyond the broadcast, he was known as a trusted mentor who generously invested his time in encouraging the next generation of journalists.
