Bryce Romans of Osceola, Mo., may be a freshman at Mizzou, but this isn’t his first time on a college campus.

Romans graduated from the Missouri Academy of Science, Math and Computing in Maryville, Mo., on the Northwest Missouri State campus, taking college classes with college students.

“The college credit I have gives me some leeway to take extra classes and explore,” says Romans, who is the first in his family to attend college. “Academically, I’m looking at a major in biological engineering. I want to do something to help people. I also plan on doing a lot of research. It’s one of the things that attracted me to Mizzou.”

Romans considers the wide variety of student groups on campus a plus. Romans is also involved in the Missouri Students Association Senate, building on his experience in high school student government.

Scholarship from the chancellor
As a recipient of the Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarship — worth up to $15,000 a year — Romans says, “In the future, if I get an internship that doesn’t pay, I’ll be able to take advantage of that opportunity because I don’t have to worry about financing college.”

The Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarship is made possible by the Chancellor's Scholarship Fund, which provides funds for students who demonstrate high achievement and students with financial need.
