Gift to MU will support art education

Sept. 19, 2006

Research has shown that arts education may engage young people who are not active in traditional education courses and help all students succeed in school and life pursuits. A gift of more than $100,000 to the University of Missouri-Columbia will help develop the next generation of art teachers dedicated to these purposes. The gift creates the Dolores Fiebig Hoboy Art Education Endowed Fund, a permanently endowed fund supporting art education in the College of Education’s Department of Learning, Teaching and Curriculum.

“The art education program at the University of Missouri- Columbia is thrilled to be receiving an endowment from the Hoboy family in honor of Dolores Fiebig Hoboy,” said Kathy Unrath, assistant professor of art education in the College of Education. “This generous gift will provide invaluable resources for art education students, both undergraduate and graduate, and the MU community, as it will help support programs that will impact the next generation of art teachers.”

The gift was given by Paul Hoboy, Loren P. Hoboy, Karol Ann Hoboy-Tenore and Lance K. Hoboy at the request of the late Dolores Fiebig Hoboy, wife of Paul and mother of Loren, Karol and Lance. This gift was made as a means to show appreciation for the outstanding education Dolores received at the University. Dolores graduated from MU in 1944 with a bachelor of science in education and a focus in art education.

The College of Education is dedicated to the pursuit of teaching, research and service. It prepares the next generation of educators and professionals to take the lead in educating youth and adults.
